Welcome to the University of Mississippi's Nutrition Clinic. The Nutrition Clinic is here to help you meet your nutrition-related goals. Whatever your nutritional need, our registered dietitians will help you develop a plan for a healthy lifestyle that’s right for you.

The University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic provides comprehensive nutrition services to the University as well as the public. We staff fully licensed and registered dietitians in our clinic who provide consultation, evaluation, and intervention for many nutritional service needs.

Services and Pricing 

The Nutrition Clinic offers a wide range of services for the University and Oxford/Lafayette community. Patients can come to the clinic for the following: 

  • Medical and nutrition counseling 
  • Diet analysis 
  • Boyd composition assessment and consultation 
  • Diet recal and/or food diary evaluation

Services 

Medical and Nutrition Counseling 

Our Registered Dietitians can assess your nutritional status if you have an illness, diet-related condition, injury, interested in benefiting your own health, and/or reducing health-care costs. 

Our Registered Dietitians specialize in helping you to meet your goals for weight loss/gain, chronic disease prevention/management, recovery from eating disorders, navigating food allergies and sensitivities, eating for optimal athletic performance, getting the most out of a vegetarian/vegan diet, building your best relations with food, and much more. 

  • Initial consults are typically 45-60 minutes and include an initial assessment of anthropometrics, weight and diet history, meal patterns, goal setting, and nutrition instruction.
    • Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes.
  • One-on-one nutrition counseling is available by appointment. Initial consults are typically $100/60 minutes and follow-ups are $50/30 minutes.
  • Cost varies by time, $25 per quarter hour. 

 Diet Analysis 

A Registered Dietitian can provide you with information on the nutritional value of the foods, including exact calorie and fat count to the vitamin and mineral content of your favorite food or recipes. 

  • This analysis is available by appointment and price varies with the number of ingredients per recipe.

Body Composition Assessment and Consultation 

The “Gold Standard” in its field, the Bod Pod is only available in a few Mississippi location, the UM Nutrition Clinic is one of those few! 

The Bod Pod is a body composition assessment system that calculates the percentage of fat and muscle mass.

  • The Bod Pod is available at the Clinic by appointment and is $50 per test. 
  • If RD consultation is desired, additional time can be scheduled. 

Diet Recal and/or Food Diary Evaluation 

Have you ever wondered if the foods you eat are right for you? Doing a 3-day food intake (diet recall or food diary) can help you decide. 

  • Our nutrition experts will analyze your food intake for a given period of time, usually 1-3 days.

As members of the staff of the University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic, we recognize the partnership we have with our patients. We support the following statement of patient rights and responsibilities:

As a patient of the University of Mississippi's Nutrition Clinic you have the right:

  • to reasonable access to services regardless of race, creed, age, gender, handicap, national origin, or sexual orientation.
  • to considerate care which respects individual needs, values, and beliefs.
  • to information about diagnosis and treatment.
  • to know the identity and professional status of the provider.
  • to personal privacy and confidentiality.
  • to accept or refuse care and to be informed of the possible consequences of refusal.
  • to be informed of research and educational projects affecting care or treatment, and to refuse to participate in such activities.
  • to approve or refuse the release of information, except as required by law.
  • to present concerns and complaints and to receive a response.
  • to information about services, hours, fees and payment, and eligibility.

As a patient of the University of Mississippi's Nutrition Clinic you have the responsibility:

  • to provide accurate and complete health information.
  • to report whether you clearly understand the plan of treatment and what is expected of you.
  • to express any concerns about the plan of care.
  • to follow the treatment plan.
  • to understand the possible consequences of not following the treatment plan.
  • to report changes in condition to the service provider.
  • to keep appointments, or if unable, to inform the University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic at least 24 hours in advance.
  • to respond to the University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic’s requests for evaluation of services provided.
  • to respect the rights, privacy, and property of other patients and staff.
  • to follow The University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic rules and procedures.
  • to fulfill financial obligations.

Ethics

All individuals who teach or provide services at the University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic are expected to abide by a Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics of ASHA is available online at asha.org. The Code outlines our responsibility to the welfare of our patients, our responsibility to behave as professionals, our responsibilities to other professionals, and our responsibilities to the public.

All students, faculty, and staff are expected to abide by this Code of Ethics in their conduct of clinical and academic responsibilities in the UMNC. It is assumed that the principles that are practiced in the UMNC and NHM will continue to guide each student as they enter the profession of nutrition upon graduation.

Patient Rights

The University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic and the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management are committed to providing each patient with their rights. The UMNC provides treatment without regard to race, creed, nationality, gender, or source of payment. Our patients are encouraged to ask questions about their rights if they do not understand.

The client or parent/guardian is given a copy of “Patient Rights and Responsibilities,” which defines their rights at their first visit to the Nutrition Clinic.

Patient Privacy

The University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic is committed to maintaining the privacy of its clients. Information pertaining to patients and their families is personal and private. The privacy of clients is also maintained with documents and records of clients.

While documentation is extremely important, the UMNC must comply with the requirements of the ways in which information may be shared. Patients are to receive a Notice of Privacy Practices that explains their rights to privacy.  Students should read and be familiar with the contents of this document and be prepared to answer questions about it.

ServSafe® Seminar & Testing

The UM Nutrition Clinic and the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management offer ServSafe® Seminars to the public.

ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-Conference for Food Protection (CFP). More than 3 million ServSafe® Food Protection Manager certifications have been awarded to date.

This certification is important for businesses handling any food items because the Mississippi Food Code requires that each organization has at least one certified food safety manager employed full-time, obtaining the ServSafe® certification satisfies this requirement. Testing Available by Certified Proctors

Do you need a ServSafe proctor for your test? ServSafe testing is available by appointment for anyone who has successfully completed the online course and needs a proctor for your ServSafe exam. Proof of course completion must be provided prior to the test.

Anyone needing to retake the exam due to a previous failed exam can do so at the Clinic (see registration).

The cost of testing is $75.
