Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC)

WHAT WE DO

We are the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) unit at The University of Mississippi. Founded in 1946, Ole Miss NROTC is Mississippi’s flagship Naval Officers training command. We develop Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically to prepare them for careers as future officers in the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

The NROTC Life

NROTC Midshipmen share the same college experience as a typical student but are held to higher physical, mental, and academic standards to prepare them to lead our country's Warfighting Navy and Marine Corps.
Academics

Academics

Midshipmen are held to a higher academic standard than their peers. In addition to their respective majors' courseload, Midshipmen take an additional class each semester as part of the education to become an officer in the Naval service as well as are expected to maintain a minimum GPA.

Fitness

Midshipmen are held to a higher physical standard in contrast to their peers in college. Once or twice a week, the unit musters in the morning to conduct PT to further physical fitness. The end goal is to greatly exceed the physical fitness standards set by the Navy and Marine Corps.

Events and Activities

NROTC is not just in the classroom or in the field. Midshipmen take part in events such as time-honored events like the Navy Birthday Ball to the Push-Up and Cannon Crew at every home Football game. The NROTC unit is very active within the Ole Miss campus and community, which provides Midshipmen the opportunity to have an enhanced college experience relative to their peers.

Camaraderie

The NROTC unit at Ole Miss is a brotherhood and a family. United by the higher calling to serve their nation, Midshipmen form bonds that last from a career to a lifetime.

Teamwork is of the essence in our modern military and our NROTC unit instills those values from Day One to the day you commission and begin your career.
