Brief Bio
Luca Bombelli is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy. Dr Bombelli received his undergraduate degree from the University of Milan (Italy) in 1980, his MS from Syracuse University in 1983 and his PhD from Syracuse University in 1987. After doing postdoctoral research at the University of Vienna (Austria), the University of Calgary (Canada), the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) and the University of Geneva (Switzerland), and spending one year on the faculty at Mercyhurst College (Pennsylvania), Dr Bombelli joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Mississippi in 1996 as a visiting Assistant Professor. He became a tenure-track faculty member in 1999 and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and then Full Professor. Since 2016 he is Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Dr Bombelli has published numerous papers in classical and quantum aspects of the theory of gravity and on mathematical physics topics. He has received research funds from the National Science Foundation, and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in physics and astronomy.
