Brief Bio
John Bentley is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Administration and a Research Associate Professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He received his B.S. degree in pharmacy and M.B.A. from Drake University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in pharmacy administration from the University of Mississippi. In an effort to continue to update his knowledge and skills, Dr. Bentley is currently enrolled in a graduate program in the Department of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to 2007, Dr. Bentley was responsible for teaching a course in the pharmacy curriculum focusing on the organization, delivery, financing, and outcomes of health care. In the new pharmacy curriculum, he likely will teach a course covering elements of research design, biostatistics, epidemiology, and drug literature evaluation. At the graduate level, he teaches applied statistics courses designed for social science researchers. In 2005, he was named a School of Pharmacy Cerniglia Distinguished Teaching Scholar (reappointed in 2008). His research interests include: 1) understanding how medications and the medication consumption experience affect quality of life, 2) empirical investigations of ethical issues in research and in pharmacy practice, and 3) professionalism among pharmacists and pharmacy students.
