Brief Bio

Dr. Saumen Chakraborty, Assistant Professor at UM since 2016, received his Ph.D. in chemical biology and inorganic chemistry from Univ. of Michigan in 2011. His research interests are bioinorganic chemistry and nanomaterials. He was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Univ. of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign from 2011-2013. From 2014-2016 he was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Los Alamos National Laboratory where he conducted laboratory research focused on the synthesis, and characterization of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs), silver nanoclusters (AgNCs), and biomaterials and their applications in energy, catalysis, and bioimaging. He was recently awarded a grant from the NIH to study a class of enzymes that could lead to significant advances in alternate energy research.
