The Gifted Certificate is entirely online and is designed to prepare educators with the knowledge base and competencies necessary for the appropriate education of gifted and talented learners.
- These 12 credit hours are necessary for the Mississippi Supplementary Certificate in Gifted Education.
Students pursuing certification in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certification requirements.

Gifted Certificate
The Gifted Certificate requires the following courses for a total of 12 credit hours.
To complete the Gifted Certificate, students must complete:
- 12 hours of Professional Core courses
Professional Core Courses (12)
- EDSP 685 Characteristics of Gifted Students
- EDSP 689 Methods & Materials in Gifted Education
- EDSP 695 Differentiated Instruction for Atypical Gifted Learners
- EDSP 690 Curriculum Program Development & Prac. for Gifted Learners
Note: These four courses can be added to an M.Ed. in Special Education.
Students applying to the Gifted Certificate must meet the following requirements. Students must have:
- A completed bachelor's degree
- Hold a teacher certification
To properly complete the application process for summer admission, students must submit all application materials before the following deadline:
- Priority application deadline: April 30
