Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (3 + 1)

Students interested in pursuing the courses necessary to apply to medical technology professional school are enrolled in the Allied Health Studies major. They complete three years of pre-requisites before applying to the year of hands-on experience and training at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Departments from across the university contribute courses to the B.A. in Allied Health Studies, which is organized by the Health Professions Advising Office in the College of Liberal Arts. This nationally recognized office helps prepare students for application and admission to the professional schools in allied health.

Students receive a well-rounded general education from the College of Liberal Arts that empowers them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change in the world. The program also allows students to choose the relevant courses for their professional school of choice. 

What is the Value of the Medical Technology (3+1) program?

The B.S. in Medical Technology prepares students for certification and professions in medical laboratories. At the North Mississippi Medical Center, they participate in labs learning about theory and techniques for work in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, and urinalysis. Students then spend rotations working in the five major sections of the clinical laboratory.
