Working Towards a Sustainable Future
The Office of Sustainability is creating and continuing innovative programs and initiatives in an effort to improve our university's stewardship of our resources as well as our relationship with our community and land.
Our projects tackle various aspects of campus sustainability, such as:
- Energy-efficiency
- Improved solid waste management
- Access to resources and educational materials
The Office of Sustainability is constantly working to improve our operations, and you can learn more about our programs and initiatives below.

The City of Oxford does not currently have a process for recycling glass. To divert this resource from the landfill, the Office of Sustainability sponsors a semesterly glass recycling drive in partnership with Door2Door Recycling.
We allow all members of our campus and Oxford community to take advantage of this service. To learn when we are hosting our next glass recycling drive, get connected with our office.
Our beautiful campus has multiple gardens (many of them dedicated to our pollinator friends) thanks to our Department of Landscaping Services, but the Office of Sustainability closely manages one garden behind the Residential Colleges South and Luckyday.
- The UM Campus Garden is available for anyone in the campus community to cultivate, harvest, and maintain after communicating with our office and the UM Garden Club.
We encourage students, faculty, and staff to explore this spot and connect with other green thumbs around campus. We are also designing a dragonfly pond to add to this same site to enhance our campus biodiversity.
Our office is dedicated to informing our campus community about what sustainability means and how to practice it.
- As such, we offer classroom presentations that last about ten minutes and include ways for students to get involved.
- You can schedule a classroom presentation here.
Our office also creates and promotes educational materials for new students to acquaint themselves with sustainability at Ole Miss during orientation.
