Office of Sustainability
The mission of the Office of Sustainability is to be a catalyst for environmentally positive change by educating, connecting, and empowering the members of our community for the well-being of our people, mission, and ecological systems.
What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is a framework that develops and integrates best practices of how to combine partnership, community, innovation, and natural environment in order to responsibly meet our current needs and care for our home while ensuring that future generations are able to prosper.
The mission of the Office of Sustainability is to create innovative programs and initiatives that help our university lead in good stewardship of our resources in our community and state while emphasizing responsibility, respect, and innovative development.
Our office serves to connect our campus with our local environment and community to promote social, economic, and environmental sustainability, learning, and development through encouraging collaboration, emphasizing feasibility, and conserving our natural resources.
Our Resources
Our office works closely with students of all academic paths to incorporate sustainability into their experience at UM. We offer semesterly student intern positions that are catered to each interns' interests. Our office can host capstone student research projects or connect students with faculty mentors for their research in sustainability.
The Office of Sustainability has many resources available to faculty and staff. Our office can advertise your open research or student worker positions related to sustainability to interested students. The Office of Sustainability hosts the monthly UM Sustainability Forum where faculty and staff can propose new initiatives or provide input to others' proposals. We also offer classroom presentations to introduce our office to students and share our resources with them, or even support class projects to connect with our campus initiatives and ecology.
