Student in Parking Lot

Bicycles

As of the fall semester of 2013, starting august 15th, all bicycles on the University of Mississippi Oxford Campus are required to obtain an annual bicycle permit.  Registration cost is $1.

Starting August 15, you may register your bike online (interactive Adobe PDF) or in person at the Department of Parking and Transportation offices in Lester Hall. Please have your serial number, make, model, color and personal information available before you register.

Why is registration required

Mandatory registration helps the University gather data to determine if there are adequate services like bike racks and locations, on campus bike routes and other related amenities. Registration is also the best way to help recover a bicycle in the event it is lost or stolen. The registration fee and decal cost $1.00 for the 2013-2014 academic school year. The fee will rise to $2.00 in 2014-2015..

Registration for Active Students and Staff

Students and Staff with active bursar or payroll accounts at the University can have the $1 fee charged to their University account. Fill out and return it to bikeforms@olemiss.edu - the form will be processed within two business days and your decal will be available for pickup at the Parking and Transportation main office in Rm 120 Lester Hall. Please make sure the front desk knows that you've previously submitted a form and are there for picking up your decal.

Registration for Visitors

Visitors that frequent the University Campus between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday are still required to obtain a permit/decal for their bicycles. Unlike visitors in cars, the decal is good for the full academic year. Fill out the registration form and bring a printed copy to the Parking and Transportation main office in Rm 120 Lester Hall, pay the fee at that time and receive your decal.

Other Things to Know

When riding a bike in any public space, a cyclist is required to follow the same rules and regulations as a motorized vehicle. It is the cyclist responsibility to know and understand these regulations. These rules apply to both the University campus and the City of Oxford.

University of Mississippi - Rules and Regulations regarding parking and vehicle use (motorized and non-motorized) can be found HERE. Section 'k' details the bicycle policy but bicycles are referenced in other sections, particularly those related to handicap access areas.

Also, reference University Policy Code UPD.GP.100.002 and DSA.SH.400.004 regarding abandoned bicycles.
