Upcoming Workshops & Institutes
Each year, CMSE offers a variety of one-day workshops and multi-day institutes designed to provide professional learning on timely and relevant topics. These sessions are intended to provide classroom teachers with the opportunity to increase their own content knowledge and to collaborate with educators across the state on best practices for classroom instruction.

Middle Math Institutes – Summer 2025
The CMSE Middle Math Institutes are designed to engage educators in dissecting, understanding, and making connections to the mathematics content taught in grades 6-8. Successful completion of all four institutes will allow Mississippi educators to apply for a Supplemental Endorsement in Middle-Level Mathematics (Endorsement Code – 901): Number Systems, Ratios, & Proportions – June 9-12, 2025, Oxford, MS; Expressions, Equations, & Functions – June 16-19, 2025, Oxford, MS; Geometry – June 23-26, 2025, Oxford, MS; Statistics & Probability – July 7-10, 2025, Oxford, MS

Algebra Institute – August 21-22, 2025, Oxford, MS
This two-day session engages teachers in exploring strategies and tools to introduce students to algebraic reasoning including conceptual development of integer operations, solving equations, and connecting algebra to prior mathematics learning. Participants will also explore common misconceptions that students have related to graphing, slope, and functions. Audience: Grades 6-Algebra I; Credits Available: 1.2 CEUs or 10 SEMIs; Cost: $300 per person; Registration Deadline: August 13, 2025

Integrating STEM in the Early Grades – August 29, 2025, Oxford, MS
STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) in early childhood education does not involve explaining complex ideas, such as gravity, but rather guiding students to notice and experience how these ideas play a role in the world around us. During this one-day session, participants will explore what STEM learning looks like in the early grades, engage in hands-son STEM activities, and participate in an engineering design challenge appropriate for young students. Teachers will learn how to integrate STEM Concepts into other learning experiences, including reading. Audience: Grades PreK-4; Credits Available: 0.6 CEUs or 5 SEMIs; Cost: $150 per person; Registration Deadline: August 21, 2025

Exploring Mathematics Content Progressions – A Professional Learning Series
Effective mathematics teaching requires educators to know and understand how the content, tools, and processes they teach fit within the broader picture of mathematics learning. During each session in this professional learning series, participants will gain insight into the development of these topics as they explore the standards across grades, engage in hands-on explorations, and discuss instructional strategies. Attendees will receive a free copy of the CMSE’s Mathematics Content Progressions Guide. Number Lines – September 5, 2025, Oxford, MS; Word Problems – October 3, 2025, Oxford, MS; Area Models – October 31, 2025, Oxford, MS

Understanding Fractions Institute – January 15-16, 2026, Oxford, MS
This two-day session will engage teachers in exploring strategies and tools to introduce representations of fractions, including manipulatives, number lines, and visual diagrams. Strategies for building conceptual understanding of fraction equivalence will be explored as well as strategies for teaching operations with fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division). Participants will discuss how these strategies build upon students’ prior experiences with operations with whole numbers. Audience: Grades 3-6; Credits Available: 1.2 CEUs or 10 SEMIs; Cost: $300 per person; Registration Deadline: January 7, 2026
