The School of Business Administration offers three courses focusing on Real Estate that are offered through the Department of Finance and the Ole Miss Real Estate Initiative.
Real Estate Courses
- FIN 351: Principles of Real Estate
- A study of principles of land economics, the law dealing with property rights, agency, contracts, and transfer of title; Mississippi licensing law, the Code of Ethics, and basic mathematics about the real estate industry.
- FIN 353: Real Estate Valuation and Appraisal
- A study of the theories of value as applied to both residential and income properties, the determinants of value, and the underlying principles of valuation. Students will solve problems that demonstrate an understanding of the three approaches to valuation: cost, sales comparison, and income capitalization.
- FIN 455: Real Estate Finance and Investment
- A study of principles and methods of financing real estate from both the investor and investee perspectives. Topics covered include sources of funds, types and contents of financing instruments, and the role of various institutions. The course will focus on determining the economic feasibility of real estate investments and the impact of financing and income taxes on investment profitability.
