About this Program

Departments from across the University of Mississippi contribute courses to the B.A. in Allied Health Studies, which is organized by the Health Professions Advising Office in the College of Liberal Arts. The degree prepares students for application and admission to nursing and other allied health professional schools. The allied health studies emphases are

  • Dental Hygiene,
  • Health Informatics and Information Management, 
  • Histotechnology,
  • Medical Laboratory Science,
  • Medical Technology,
  • Nursing,
  • Physician Assistant, and
  • Radiologic Sciences.

Students receive a well-rounded general education from the College of Liberal Arts that empowers them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change in the world. The program also allows students to choose the relevant courses for their professional school of choice.

Allied Health Studies majors receive direct support from the Health Professions Advising Office, a nationally-recognized office that is unique in Mississippi. The office offers one-on-one advising, programs, and support to explore career opportunities and to create a competitive application to professional school.  

The Value of an Allied Health Studies Degree

Allied Health Studies majors achieve an understanding of people, health, and culture. This gives them the ability to understand human behavior, communicate complex ideas, think critically, interpret data, and engage with a diverse world. These skills prepare our majors to enter any allied health profession and become leaders of the future.

    Students in the B.A. in Allied Health Studies program complete 30-36 credit hours of courses for the major, additional requirements, and a required minor field of study.
