About the Minor in Japanese

The Department of Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts offers a minor in Japanese. Students take elementary, intermediate and advanced Japanese courses that emphasize both the language and culture of Japan.

Knowledge of a foreign language is important in today's world for practical, cultural, and intellectual reasons. Those who are proficient in a second language have a clear advantage in many fields, becoming "citizens of the world" in a time when communication with and an understanding of other cultures are paramount.

Japanese is a beneficial language to learn and knowing Japanese is a marketable skill to have. Japan is one of the largest nation in the world in economic size and the country plays important roles in cutting-edge industries.
