The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Mississippi offers great artistic and academic opportunities. Our students receive individualized attention from a faculty with extensive professional experience and we create performance, design, and stage management opportunities for all of our students.
Studying Theatre & Film
Theatre and Film majors cultivate a diverse set of skills, including analysis, critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Throughout their studies, students work closely with peers on various productions, developing their abilities to collaborate, solve problems, and think innovatively. They engage in thoughtful discussions about performance techniques, cinematic storytelling, and the social, cultural, and historical contexts that shape both theatre and film. Students also gain hands-on experience in areas such as acting, directing, writing, and production, honing their craft across different mediums. By exploring the complexities of character development, visual storytelling, and the impact of both live theatre and film on society, Theatre and Film majors acquire invaluable skills in interpretation, analysis, and expression.

The department offers three undergraduate degrees: The BFA in Theatre Arts, emphasis in Acting for Stage & Screen, the BFA in Theatre Arts, emphasis Design & Theatre Production, the BFA in Film Production and the BA in Theatre Arts.

The University of Mississippi’s Department of Theatre & Film invites you to audition for the B.F.A. emphasis in Acting for Stage & Screen, interview for the B.F.A. emphasis in Design & Theatre Production, or apply for the B.F.A. in Film Production.
