Research Events

The Office for Research and Economic Development is excited to offer the events below. Research benefits all of us.

Be part of improving lives in Mississippi and around the world

The University of Mississippi is an R1 Research institution, hosting world-class faculty and teaching students in a vibrant intellectual environment. The Office for Research and Economic Development (ORED) plays a pivotal role in maintaining and growing the number and quality of these activities. The events listed below promote and showcase the real-world impact of research at UM, and ORED encourages you be an active part of this community.

Strategic Research Development (SRD)

ORED SRD invites NOIs and proposals for small projects that could lead to bigger externally funded projects.

Strategic Research Development (SRD) in the UM Office for Research and Economic Development (ORED) invites proposals from individual UM investigators or teams (researchers, innovators, and creative scholars) for grants to fund small projects with demonstrated potential to lead to bigger projects.

Small Grant Program (SGP) awards will help UM researchers and creative scholars from all disciplines explore new research directions, develop new collaborations, conduct pilot projects, advance economic development, and/or adapt to compete in a changing world.

Each proposal should identify a need, gap, or opportunity to be explored, detail a small project as a first step to explore it, and anticipate the next, bigger step that completing the project will enable.

For newer investigators, participation in the Small Grant Program can also help develop skills in grant writing, proposal development, and award management.

Notices of Intent are due: Monday, October 27, 2025

Proposals are due: Monday, December 1, 2025

Information sessions and a grantwriting workshop are scheduled. See full announcement PDF for details and instructions.
