
About the Minor in Naval Science
Offered through the Naval ROTC program in the College of Liberal Arts, the Naval Science minor develops officers in the United States Navy and Marine Corp. Students are not required to be part of the NROTC program to enroll in the Naval Science minor.
Students learn about the history, missions, and capabilities of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps including the concept of seapower, history of the Navy, shipboard navigation, concepts of warfare, and ship systems. Courses are instructed by active duty officers who offer invaluable insight into the inner workings of the Naval Sciences.
Students gain valuable skills in leadership, writing and briefing, problem solving, team-building, conflict management, responsibility, and authority.

Students in the Naval Science minor complete 18 credit hours.
Required courses:
- Nsc 111: Intro to Naval Science
- Nsc 112: Seapower & Maritime Affairs
- Nsc 211: Naval Leadership and Management or Nsc 412: Naval Leadership and Ethics
One course at the 400 level:
- If the student selected Nsc 211, either Nsc 412 or Nsc 413 fulfills the requirement.
- If the student selected Nsc 412, then Nsc 413 fulfills the requirement.
