Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence

WHAT WE DO

The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) helps students prepare for the manufacturing industry through educational programs, extension services, and economic development initiatives.

A New Standard for Manufacturing Education

At the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME), students gain more than classroom knowledge. They gain the mindset, skillset, and experience to lead in one of the world’s most dynamic industries.

More Than a Classroom

By combining interdisciplinary academics with real factory floor experience and a culture of servant leadership, CME bridges the gap between what students learn and how they’ll lead. With unparalleled job placement and unmatched access to industry, CME is where curiosity meets capability and where tomorrow’s manufacturing leaders get their start.

Experience That Sets You Apart

Every part of the CME experience is built around real-world readiness. Students learn from instructors with industry backgrounds, work in professional-grade facilities, and solve operational challenges for active manufacturers. Along the way, they build confidence, earn trust, and become part of a close-knit community that supports their growth long after graduation.

Minor or Emphasis in Manufacturing

Students accepted into the CME earn an 18-credit minor or emphasis in manufacturing alongside their major degree. This interdisciplinary program introduces students to key principles of engineering, business, and accountancy—all through the lens of manufacturing.

CME coursework blends classroom learning with hands-on experience in areas like product realization, strategic planning, and lean manufacturing. Students also explore topics such as financial management for manufacturing and complete a capstone project that brings together everything they’ve learned.
