What is electrical and computer engineering?

Electrical Engineering

Learn to understand, design and develop devices and systems that operate on or generate electricity

Electrical engineers use the physics and mathematics of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics to create, develop and test electrical equipment and systems.

Computer Engineering

Study and apply electronics, hardware and software engineering to produce computing devices for products used in everyday life

Computer engineers build computing devices – everything from personal computers and supercomputers to systems in cell phones, household appliances and transportation. They can work with emerging technologies such as self-driving automobiles, 5G wireless and artificial intelligence.

Our Degree Offerings

Undergraduate students can earn a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.  Graduate students can earn a M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering Science with an emphasis in computer engineering, electrical engineering, electromagnetics, or telecommunications (M.S. only).

The mission of the Ole Miss Electrical and Computer Engineering department is to provide quality education to our students.

 

To this end, we fulfill our mission by operating under the follow goals:

  • To provide high quality instruction and intellectual stimulation for the students
  • To provide opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in research pursued by faculty
  • To instill in our graduates the need for life-long learning
  • To enable graduate students to pursue high quality research so that they will emerge as future technological leaders and academics
