International Student Application
Freshman Qualifications
Will you complete secondary/high school outside of the United States and plan to attend a university for the first time? Refer to the checklist below.
Special Programs
If you are interested in programs such as the Honors College, International Studies, Public Policy, Teaching, or Pharmacy. Explore UM Special Programs.
You have two options to apply for admissions, the UM application or Common App.
Online UM Application Common App
The application fee is payable upon completion of the application online.
Unfortunately, UM's policy does not allow application fees to be waived for international students.
Since the student visa process requires students to demonstrate the capability of paying for all education, living, and travel costs for attending university in the U.S., the application fee cannot be waived on the basis of financial hardship for any international applicant who requires a student visa to enter or remain in the U.S.
Transcripts can be submitted by email to study@olemiss.edu. We consider transcripts official when they are sent directly from a high school counselor or school official or through Common App.
Grade Point Average on US Scale | SAT/ACT Requirements |
3.0 - 4.0 GPA on US scale | Admissible without SAT/ACT score |
2.5 - 2.99 GPA on US scale | Student must submit an SAT of 880 or higher or ACT of 16 or higher. |
2.0 - 2.49 GPA on US scale | Students must submit an SAT of 960 or higher or ACT of 18 or higher. |
If your GPA does not require an SAT or ACT score and you have an official score, please send it to UM (School Code: 1840). Very high scores may be eligible for additional scholarship funds and/or waive some math prerequisites. Some programs require a minimum GPA for admission.
English proficiency can be demonstrated many ways. Please see our current list of accepted tests, waivers, and scores.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the deadline to apply?
The university has a rolling admissions policy, so you can apply at any time and expect a decision within a few weeks. However, we recommend that international students apply before February 1 for Fall Semester enrollment and before October 1 for Spring Semester enrollment to ensure enough time for the student visa process.
What is considered an official transcript?
Official transcripts are issued directly by the institution at which the coursework was completed, holding original seals and/or stamps and/or signatures. They should be hard-copy photocopies of the original, or official transcripts or degree certificates which are certified by the issuing institution (this is common in cases where one and only one official transcript and/or degree certificate is ever issued); by the U.S. Consulate’s Education/Culture Departments or its official representatives; or by select U.S. sponsoring agencies such as Fulbright, IREX, etc. Notarized copies of academic credentials are not acceptable in lieu of official ones.
Do I need to use an admissions or education agent/consultant?
No, you do not need an agent. Any information required to apply for admission is available on our website, and our staff is available at future@olemiss.edu for guidance, if needed. If you do use an agent, always research and verify the legitimacy of any agent you consider using before committing to their services.
Does the University provide immigration/visa guidance for international students?
International Student and Scholar Services issues the proper legal documents to international students who are admitted, after financial documents have been approved. This legal document is referred to as Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, resp. in support of the F-1 or J-1 visa application. While we provide helpful tips to help international students prepare for a successful visa interview at the U.S. Consulate, whether or not a visa is ultimately issued is solely between the U.S. Consular Officer and the student.
