Volunteer

Anyone can volunteer with our office, whether a student, member of faculty or staff, or an individual from the community. Some volunteer events you can look forward to include garden workdays at our UM Campus Garden, waste audits and recycling drives, and regularly scheduled compost sorting for our new compost program. You can find and register for our upcoming events on our GrovePulse page.

Internships

The Office of Sustainability is proud to host numerous student interns every semester. We work with students to cater their internship experience to their interests while developing their professional skills. Student interns work on diverse topics, and you can refer to our intern testimonials to learn more about their experiences. Contact our office today to inquire about internship applications.

Clubs & Other Campus Resources

Explore other campus opportunities and resources for learning about sustainability and preparing for your career.

The university has several sustainability-related clubs. Students can participate in the UM Garden Club, UM Environmental Coalition, Hill Country Roots, UM Beekeepers, and many more. Search for similar student organizations at UM.

Students can find sustainability opportunities through the student government organization, the Associated Student Body. There are different groups within ASB that discuss sustainability, including:
  • ASB President's Cabinet Bureau of Infrastructure and Environmental Affairs
  • ASB Committee on Infrastructure and Environmental Affairs

Interested students can reach out to their ASB senators or to the executive board to learn how they can get involved. Find more information about the Associated Student Body here.

The Career Center can help you find internships with sustainable companies and organizations that will help you develop important skills and gain workplace experience. The center also hosts regular career and graduate program fairs to advertise post-graduate opportunities to students, and they can help you workshop your resume and cover letters. Connect with the Career Center to learn more.

Our office has compiled a list of resources and opportunities available as of Fall 2025, with descriptions and deadlines, for students pursuing careers in sustainability. View the Student Success in Sustainability PowerPoint Presentation.
